Electrical fire leaves Guelph-Eramosa home uninhabitable

An early morning electrical fire here on July 9 left a house uninhabitable.

At about 4am Guelph-Eramosa Fire received the call to a residence on the Seventh Line in Guelph-Eramosa Township.

“When crews arrived they found flames coming from the living room window,” Guelph-Eramosa Fire Chief John Osborne said. “They were able to make a quick knockdown of that fire and then subsequently enter the house and extinguish it.”

The renters living at the home escaped before the fire department arrived on scene, Osborne said. There were no injuries to occupants or to firefighters.

Because water shuttle service was required crews from Puslinch, Guelph and Centre Wellington were also called and Osborne said that at the height of the fire there were 30 firefighters on scene.

The site was cleared around 9:30am on July 9 at which time the house was turned back over to the homeowner, Osborne said.

The house is uninhabitable and Osborne estimated the damage from the fire to be between $350,000 and $400,000.
