Elderly woman dies after crash

An elderly woman who was in critical condition following a serious collision at the intersection of Highway 6 and Grey Road 109, just north of Mount Forest, has died in a London hospital.

On Feb. 16 at about 9:15am Grey County OPP, Mount Forest fire fighters and Grey County EMS responded to the scene.

Police say Mary Evelyn Almond, 88, of Sundridge, was driving a Dodge Caravan westbound on Grey Road 109 when it entered the intersection at Highway 6 and collided with a southbound Toyota Corolla on Highway 6.

The 29-year-old female driver of the Toyota was not injured. The 88-year old female driver of the Dodge Caravan did not appear to be injured but was transported to hospital as a precaution.

Grey County OPP initially announced the woman had died, but later retracted that statement, stating she was “in critical condition and is being transferred to a London hospital via land ambulance.”

Almond died later at the London hospital.
