Egypt arrives at Guelph museum

Egypt, Gift of the Nile, a travelling exhibit from the Royal Ontario Museum, opens at the Guelph Civic Museum on Jan. 31.

The Nile River Valley of 5,000 years ago was the birthplace of a remarkable civilization.

Under a system of divine kingship, the civilization flourished and endured for thousands of years and contributed strongly to the later cultures of the Mediterranean and Europe.

Egypt, Gift of the Nile explores Egyptian civilization through its ten centres: introduction, personal adornment, make-up and perfume, feeding the household, buildings large and small, family life, education, religion, funerary religion and the afterlife.

Also included are hands-on activities for children.

The exhibit continues at the Guelph Civic Museum until March 29.

The Museum is at 6 Dublin Street South and is open from 1 to 5pm. Regular admission is $4 for adults, $3 for seniors, students and children and $10 for families.
