Eden Mills Community Club hosting annual Spirit Walk

“Spirits” from the 19th and early 20th centuries will be out in Eden Mills on May 5.

The Eden Mills Community Club is hosting the Eden Mills Spirit Walk throughout the village, which was established in 1867.

With performances taking place at 1:30 and 3:30pm, up to 100 people will have the opportunity to experience the historical tour. Each walk has a 50 person limit.

The show will convene at the Eden Mills Community Hall, where refreshments and musical accompaniment will be available.

“Spirit Walk tours will begin on the banks of the Eramosa River with the introduction of the area’s indigenous history,” said Barbara Marshall, one of the event organizers, at the April 23 Guelph-Eramosa council meeting.

“As they are guided through the village, audience members will meet the colourful spirits of the 19th century inhabitants.”

These people include:

– miller Daniel Kribs;

– postmaster Adam Argo;

– general store owner Norman Marshall;

– Harris Hotel maid Beryl;

– Methodist Church leader Henry Hortop; and

– 1820s settlers John and Rachel Ramsay.

The spirt walk was written by Sandy Lucs, directed by Catherine Frid and performed by  actors from Eden Mills and Elora.

The hour-long tour requires a moderate level of fitness and walking shoes are recommended.

The walk is a fundraiser for the Eden Mills Community Club’s energy-retrofit of the hall. Funds will help match the $118,000 Canada 150 contribution.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for children 12 and younger and are available at edenmills.ca/spirit-walk or by calling 519-856-1451.
