Easter food drives continue in Erin, Hillsburgh

With Easter around the corner, the shelves of many food banks are starting to see gaps and the local grocery stores have been quick to respond through hosting a food drive event at each location.

Customers can purchase a grocery bag contianing items that are needed the most at the food bank in order to support the many people in the community who rely on this program.

Some bags include food items while others contain personal hygiene supplies – but all items are needed, especially at this time of year when the donations received through the Christmas drives are starting to deplete.

“It’s a tough time of year at the food bank,” says Erika Westcott, manager of community services and volunteers with East Wellington Community Services.

“These food drives come at such a critical point when the shelves are starting to show gaps,” said Westcott.

“Hillsburgh Foodland and Erin Valu-Mart are such great supporters of the food bank program – its community partnerships like this that allow us to continue to help those in our community who need, and rely, on this program,” she added.
