Drone uncovers hundreds of marijuana plants in corn field

Police used a drone last week to uncover hundreds of marijuana plants in a corn field here.

On Sept. 23 at about 2:28pm, Wellington County OPP officers were called to a rural property by a landowner who told police he found two large duffel bags containing marijuana plants in his field.

Police say officers went to the property, located near Wellington Road 4 in Minto, and while speaking with the owner, saw two males run into a bush then into an adjoining corn field.

The OPP Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit joined the search, with the assistance of an unmanned aerial vehicle.

"Police located four separate marijuana grow plots planted in the corn field," stated an OPP press release.

"The suspects were not located, however officers seized approximately 300 mature marijuana plants."

Police are asking anyone with information to call the Wellington County OPP or Crime Stoppers.
