Dead air will still exist in Puslinch

On June 15, council reviewed notice of a proposed Xplorenet communications tower in Puslinch at 7094 Gore Road.

Councillor Susan Fielding asked if it is the company working in conjunction with Wellington County.

Mayor Dennis Lever said it is. “This is part of the infrastructure program that they are planning,” he said.

Fielding asked, “Is the intent that we won’t have ‘dead air’ areas in the township?”

Lever said he could forward a map to her, but added it is also available on the Wellington County website.

There are areas that will not be serviced by the new system.

“It does show the coverage area of the towers, and there are some fringe areas in the southwest and southeast parts of the township that do not seem to be completely covered by this particular tower … as there are areas in the rest of the county,” Lever said.

He noted the program resulted from a $1-million grant from the province through the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

Lever anticipates additional infrastructure, “but it is not part of this particular project.”

Fielding asked, “So, there will still be a few spots?”

Lever replied, “It will not provide 100% coverage.”

He was uncertain however, the reasons why that coverage would not be there.

“But there was a lot of discussion between the county, OMAFRA and Xplorenet about the location of the towers to ensure they had the most coverage,” he concluded.
