Damage estimate unknown in Marden fire

Several days after a fire at the Mann Construction yard here, officials were still not sure what caused the blaze or how much monetary damage was incurred as a result of the fire.

On Nov. 13 the Guelph Fire Department responded to a reported fire at the yard, located at 7367 Wellington Road 30.

Centre Wellington and Guelph-Eramosa departments were also called, with the former sending two water tankers. The OPP and Guelph Wellington EMS were also on the scene, though no injuries were reported.

Firefighters “arrived at the scene and found smoke coming from a large construction Quonset building with attached offices and storage,” stated a press release from the Guelph department.

“On entry fire crews found a large dump truck on a mechanics hoist that was fully involved with fire. Fire crews did an aggressive interior fire attack. The fire was quickly brought under control and subsequently extinguished.

“There was considerable smoke damage to the building and the truck suffered severe fire damage.”

There were no injuries at this scene and the cause of the fire along with an estimate of damage is still under investigation, officials stated.
