CWDHS students organized their first heart garden
Heart garden - On June 12, students in the First Nations, Métis and Inuit in Canada course organized Centre Wellington District High School’s first ever heart garden as part of their commitment to reconciliation. The Grade 10 students who ran the event include, from left: Edward Micu, Odessa Trudeau and Alexia Hagen. “Honouring Memories, Planting Dreams” is an initiative of the First Nations Family Child and Family Caring Society where Canadians plant heart gardens in memory and honour of Indian Residential School students and their families. After learning about the Indian Residential School System through morning announcements, students and staff signed hearts, some with messages of respect and promises to remember, and then added their hearts to the garden.
