Curry pleads guilty to one child pornography charge

Paul Curry pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornography during a brief appearance in Guelph criminal court on Sept. 29.

The Fergus resident was originally charged with two counts of possession of child pornography, one count of accessing child pornography and one count of making child pornography available.

The facts of the case, though not disclosed on Thursday, are expected to be recorded at Curry’s next court date on Oct. 17.

Curry’s lawyer, David Quayat of Edward H. Royale and Associates, said he will be making a constitutional challenge under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms prior to Curry’s sentencing.

The challenge is related to the credit Curry will receive for time served in custody.

At Curry’s next appearance on Oct. 17, a date will be set to hear the charter arguments.

Curry, 71, was arrested on Jan. 25 at his home in Fergus, after a two-month investigation by the OPP Child Sexual Exploitation Unit.
