County to save $2.2 million on police costs annually with new billing model

County officials expect policing costs to decrease significantly here over the next five years under the new OPP billing model.

At the Oct. 8 police services board meeting, county treasurer Ken DeHart, announced local policing costs will decrease by approximately $2.2 million dollars annually, once fully implemented in 2019 under the new OPP billing model.

“The county is pleased with this cost saving,” said Warden Chris White. “Wellington County remains one of the safest communities in Canada. There will be no reduction in service and the same high quality police services will be maintained.”

The county will see cost savings beginning next year – as they are phased in over a five-year period. Savings in 2015 will amount to approximately $1.1 million, the county statds in an Oct. 9 press release.
