When the Wellington County Plowmen’s Association makes its bid early next year to host the 2016 International Plowing Match, (IPM) it will need Wellington County’s support.

County council provided that on Sept. 29, and authorized spending $100,000 for expenses over the next four years if the bid is successful.

Finance committee chairman John Green told council there will be a more complete report in October, but as for the budget, “We’re pretty happy. There were no surprises.”

Green said hosting the IPM is “very positive” and added the expenditures would be “subject to change.”

The county also supported the committee’s resolution that a report be presented at the October administration, finance and personnel committee providing possible funding sources and historical information on previously funded plowing matches.

The county last hosted the IPM in 2000 and its turn to host the match comes around every 16 years. Nonetheless, there could be other bids at the annual meeting to select a host, so nothing is guaranteed in that regard.
