County council approves $600,000 to fix building for new committee

The economic development department recently created by county council will soon have a home.

Committee chairman George Bridge presented council with a recommendation from his committee that it tender a renovation project for the building adjacent to the council chamber for the economic development staff.

The project is based on a design by VG Architects dated May 15 and it holds the stipulation the contract can be awarded provided an acceptable tender is received within the budgeted amount of $616,000.

The report on the project given to the committee was a verbal one.

Signs also discussed

The county later delayed its sign project. Councillor Bruce Whale asked what was happening with that project because his municipality, Mapleton, is considering signs at its borders and sees no need to waste money if the county is also getting involved in welcome signs.

Warden Chris White said that issues will probably become “a branding” discussion , and actively placing signs at the entrance to the county and municipalities is “further down the road, for sure.”

White concluded the sign issue will likely take “at least until next spring.”
