The township’s Agricultural Society has received some help to say thanks to all those who volunteered at the annual Drayton Fair.

The society asked council at its meeting on Aug. 16 to waive the fee for the PMD arena.

“Our organization is planning an appreciation night for 2011 fair volunteers,” the society’s request to council stated. “Our plan is to use the kitchen, bar and dance hall at the PMD arena” on Oct. 28 from 2pm until midnight.

The request said that would allow preparation time for a meal and evening program.

Jim Driscoll represented the society at council. Councillor Andy Knetsch told him it is “a great idea.” Councillor Mike Downey agreed.

Mayor Bruce Whale said, “It’s not something new. We have done this for community groups that are not-for-profit.”

Council approved the request.

Councillors did wonder about the date, and if the hall is available for that night.

Driscoll said the society has a couple of dates it can consider, and will work with the township to set one.
