Council to consider firm for reviews

Wellington North council is considering an outside company for senior staff performance reviews, but deferred the issue.

Councillor Andy Lennox has called for that for  top staff. On Dec. 12, council  received a policy and decided council will do appraisals of the chief administrative officer and she will do them for department heads in consultation with council. Those will be done annually or as required.

Lennox called for an outside law firm or expert for any performance appraisals of  the township’s CAO.

CAO Lori Heinbuch suggested new councillors be provided with training for reviews and council use human resources consultant Connie Van Andel, Barcon Consulting. She is under contract for pay equity and internal equity for union and non-union staff.

Lennox said, “I have objections with the consultant.”

He suggested the township consider using Waterloo firm Simon and Associates.

Councillor Dan Yake was critical of council substituting the name of a Waterloo firm without getting a proposal on services they offer and the cost.

“I’d prefer to see that first.”
