Council pay below $85,000

When it comes to council costs, Erin might be one of the better deals in Wellington County.

At least, that is the drift most people would get upon reading the annual report on council remuneration for 2011.

On the top of the list was Mayor Lou Maieron with pay just shy of $25,000 as mayor.

His total pay package came in at $24,962, with $24,307 base pay plus $654 in expenses.

That does not include compensation for other work representing Erin such as Wellington County council or on the board of directors for Credit Valley Conservation.

Next in line for compensation was councillor Josie Wintersinger at $15,631, including $14,369 base pay and $1,261 expenses.

Councillor John Brennan was next at $15,039, $13,779 base pay and $1,259 in expenses.

Councillor Deborah Callaghan received $14,866, $13,969 base pay and $896 in expenses.

At the bottom of the list for wages was councillor Barb Tocher at $14,426, with $14,369 base salary and $391 in expenses.

Though certainly not the lowest cost for a council in Wellington – it is close.

Guelph-Eramosa and Mapleton reported lower costs at $84,862 and $80,170 respectively.

On the flip side, Centre Wellington’s remuneration for seven councillors in 2011 was $164,380.
