Council okays two more monitoring wells for Puslinch Lake work

Council has agreed to cover an additional $7,670 for two more ground water monitoring wells and reporting costs associated with the de-watering of material removed from Puslinch Lake.

In October council agreed to pay Harden Environmental $6,090 to decommission three old wells, install four new monitoring wells and assist with the certificate of approval process for dredging and de-watering at the lake.

But hydrogeologist Stan?Denhoed explained in a report to council last week that two more monitoring wells are required “to further our understanding of the water quality beneath the site and the surroundings.”

Councillor Dick Visser said the Puslinch Lake Conservation Association  (PLCA) needs to obtain a new certificate of approval next year from the Ministry of the Environment.

The current certificate for the dredging and dewatering, which the Puslinch Lake Conservation Association has been carrying out since 2005, expired at the end of November.

Visser said the wells are an important part of obtaining a new certificate of approval and he thinks council should cover the cost. The rest of council agreed.
