Council of Canadians to hear about big pit

The Council of Canadians Guelph chapter presents its annual general meeting and also a discussion on the Melancthon mega quarry on June 22.

The annual meeting starts at 6:30pm, with desserts and drinks. At 7:30pm there will be a presentation by Carl Cosack from NDACT.com. He will talk about how the largest quarry in Canada will impact area rivers’ headwaters, food, and water security?

The proposed quarry is 2,400 acres and 200 feet below the water table. Almost 8,000 acres of prime agricultural land near the headwaters of several rivers has already been bought and is being stripped before the final approval for the quarry has been achieved.

The meeting will be held at the Unitarian Congregation of Guelph at York Road and Harris Street in Guelph.
