AUGUSTA, GEORGIA – Corey Conners secured another top-10 finish last weekend, coming in eighth at the 89th Masters Tournament.
Conners, who has participated eight times in the Augusta National Golf Club tournament, began his latest crusade for the coveted green jacket with a 68 in the first round on April 10.
He followed that with a pair of 70s in the second and third rounds and entered the fourth round on April 13 in third place, four strokes off the lead.
Rory McIlroy, the eventual tournament winner, was the third-round leader at 12 under par, heading into the final round, followed by Bryson DeChambeau at -10 and Conners at -8.
On the first hole on Sunday, Conners missed a putt of less than a foot for par, and bogeyed again on the fourth hole. He rallied through to the 11th hole, shooting a birdie on holes seven and eight, before bogeys on holes 11, 14, and 16.
“Obviously it’s a sour taste in my mouth right now. Not the Sunday I certainly was hoping for,” Conners said in an interview on Sportsnet.
“Just didn’t get the ball in the hole, didn’t score it like I wanted to. Tough way to end the event, putting myself in a good spot. But still lots of positives I can take away from the week once I’m able to reflect.”
It was the fourth top-10 Masters finish of the 33-year-old’s career. He tied for 10th in 2020, tied for eighth in 2021 and tied for sixth in 2022.
Conners is the top-ranked Canadian golfer on the PGA Tour, sitting in the 21st spot overall.
He was born in Kitchener and moved to Palmerston at age two. He lived in Palmerston for more than a decade before moving to Listowel to attend high school there. He now resides in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
