Clifford Merry Makers get lesson on herbal remedies

Guest speaker Janna Dodds lit a couple of bees wax candles while setting out a display of herbs and potions to demonstrate ways to prepare herbal teas at the Merry Makers meeting on March 1 at Jamesway Manor.

Medicines are a part of her work as a registered nurse, but she said a walk in a forest inspired her to follow the concept of using “God’s forest as a pharmacy.”

She studied natural medicine and believes in building immunity the natural way with the bounty of nature. She strongly urges everyone to know their blood type and eat accordingly.

Dodds said rosemary is great for memory and pairs nicely with lamb and pork for cooking. Sea buckthorn berries contain many vitamins and turmeric helps keep down the inflammation of arthritis. She served cups of hot golden milk, a mixture with coconut milk, almond milk, turmeric, cinnamon, and garlic. She suggests fighting a cold with a quick gulp of freshly minced garlic followed swiftly with a large glass of water.

She also demonstrated numerous cleansing and detoxifying teas.

Dodd’s also practices reflexology, but left that topic for another day. Ethel Whitehead thanked her for her presentation.

The zone rally will be held on June 8 in Harriston, and the planning meeting will be held April 6 at Knox. Happy Birthday was sung to Ethel Whitehead and Edie Henry.

Marion Wylie read some humourous advertising slogans and told the story of St. Patrick’s Day as reported in the March 2017 edition of the Voice. She finished with some Irish proverbs.

Marion Agla and Marion Wylie will host the next meeting at 1:30pm on April 5 featuring floral arrangements with Jerrica Li from Northern Flora in Clifford.

Membership is not required to attend Merry Makers’ meetings.

Everyone is welcome.
