Church hosts free seniors’ safety seminar

FERGUS – St. James Anglican Church is holding a free safety seminar for seniors on May 31.

Topics pertain to fire prevention and fall prevention categories and will include:

Fire prevention

smoking;

use of space heaters;

kitchen safety;

you and fire;

smoke alarm information;

fire escape planning;

emergency numbers and services; and

planning your escape around your abilities.

Fall prevention

exercise regularly;

take your time;

keep stairs and walking areas clear;

-improve lighting in and out of your home;

use of non-slip mats;

be aware of uneven surfaces;

stairways should be well lit; and

footwear.

The session, presented by Centre Wellington Fire Rescue, is at 2pm on May 31 at St. James Anglican Church – 171 Queen St. E. in Fergus.

There will be refreshments and time for questions after the presentation.

The event is free but pre-registration is required.
