Church choir director retires after 45 years

Alieda Murray and her husband Lyle were recognized recently at Knox United Church.

After enjoying a long career as choir director at Knox, Alieda announced her retirement in the spring. Over the summer, her daughter Judith Anne Douglas and a committee of Rev. Jennifer Mountain, Joyce Cook and Jim Measures organized an appreciation celebration in honour of Alieda’s 45-year leadership behind the music podium and baton.

Rev. Jennifer Mountain remarked that Alieda was non judgmental and demonstrated a kindness of heart with a strong Christian commitment to serve her church, her community, and God. Over the years, she also directed choirs and plays, judged at fall fairs and flower shows, guided the ladies of UCW Unit 3, and most recently mentored confirmation candidates.

Lyle was recognized for his welcoming ways, running the elevator, ushering and participation in fundraisers and functions in the church.
