Children’s Foundation launches new Empowerment Campaign

GUELPH – The Children’s Foundation has opted to do things a bit differently this year. The organization launched a spring fundraising campaign – the “Empowerment Campaign” – to better meet the demand for its programs in the first half of the year.

Spring and summer Free to Grow activities including sports and summer camps are funded early in the year along with the organization’s Food & Friends student nutrition programs. Scholarships are awarded to graduates in June.

There are 150 kids whose summertime applications will be declined as summer funds for Free to Grow run out.

The Foundation states it is keeping a watchful eye on provincial funding cuts as it prepares for the possibility of reduced funding for its Food & Friends student nutrition programs.

Post-secondary tuition rates in Ontario have increased an average of 3.7 per cent per year over the past five years making scholarships needed now more than ever before.

“Your generosity and compassion have empowered so many children in our community,” foundation officials stated.

As the demand for The Children’s Foundation programs keeps rising, the organization says it needs everyone’s help in meeting this need.

“With your support, we don’t have to say ‘no’ to kids. You can help them to hear the empowering word ‘yes’.”
