Charges laid in connection with suspicious house fire

Charges have been laid in connection with the suspicious fire at a Union Street house in Fergus in January.

Mary Jane Curry, 65, of Fergus, has been charged with arson, police announced March 10. She appeared in bail court that day.

On Jan. 25 at about 4pm, firefighters from Fergus and Elora stations responded to a fire call at the house.

Centre Wellington Fire Chief Brad Patton said that day firefighters attended to “multiple fires” within that building and rescued a 65-year-old-women, later identified as the home owner.

Earlier that day, Paul Curry, 71, was arrested from the same house and charged with two counts of possession of child pornography, one count of accessing child pornography and one count of making child pornography available.

Paul’s next appearance in bail court is March 22.
