Centre Wellington pre-budget gets financial ball rolling

Centre Wellington is getting its wish list ready long before Christmas as it heads into its 2017 capital and operational budget discussions.

On Oct. 3, councillors here held a pre-budget consultation meeting looking at upcoming capital finances and expenditures.

Mayor Kelly Linton said the full day scheduled discussion was really to get the ball rolling and provide a bit of context heading into this year’s budget.

CAO Andy Goldie said staff are currently still working on the budget, but expected both the capital and operating budgets would be finished on target.

The meeting looked at:

– budget community engagement;

– BMA municipal study, providing financial comparisons of Centre Wellington to several similar municipalities;

– Jack R. MacDonald reserve funds;

– three year and seven year capital forecasts;

– 2015-2018 council priorities and initiatives; and

– 2017 operating budget and two-year forecast.

Goldie noted the budget town hall meeting is set for Nov. 2, 7pm at Aboyne Hall.

“It’s a good opportunity for people to chat one-on-one with council or staff.”

He said that new this year is the new online interactive Citizen Budget survey which is now online.

Feedback will be shared with council.

In addition, the township will provide an insert with the tax bill to provide a better understanding of where tax dollars are being spent – locally and at the county.
