FERGUS – The business community is always changing. Many outside influences affect how people run their businesses and the amount of time they can devote to them.
To help business people know what is happening in Centre Wellington, the Centre Wellington Chamber of Commerce is hosting its second annual Annual Business Town Hall on Thursday, June 20, 7pm at the Fergus Grand Theatre.
As the municipal budget has been approved and the construction season is starting, the chamber wanted a way for businesses to get the facts about projects that will impact their business.
With this in mind the Business Town Hall will feature presentations from; Centre Wellington CAO Andy Goldie, managing director of infrastructure Colin Baker, managing director of planning and development Brett Salmon, managing director of community services Brian Detzler, and chief financial officer/treasurer Wes Snarr,.
The topics covered for the evening have a business focus and will look at how changes in the municipality will affect people/traffic flow, policy changes that may impact business and future projects and developments and in turn, suggest business opportunities moving forward.
Specific topics will include: the township’s new corporate organizational structure; development charges; asset management, mandated provincial requirements; key capital (current and planned) projects such as water and waste water; and planning for growth including the community improvement plan, proposed developments.
There will be a time after the presentations for audience members to ask questions.
The chamber is always looking at how it can support our business community and liaising with all levels of government is a key role.
As the biggest impact to local businesses is at the municipal level and last year’s town hall meeting was met with positive feedback, the chamber is moving ahead again this year to present to the business community an opportunity to interact with the decision makers. Plans are also in the works for another town hall session this fall.
Business people and local residents are invited to come out and hear what’s happening in the community.
