Cell phone costs highlighted by mayor

Wellington North Mayor Mike Broomhead says council cell phone and internet costs are not hidden by the municipality.

In a recent discussion of the township’s account payments, Broomhead cited the portion of the accounts that listed Bell Mobility costs and how they applied to different members of staff and council.

He cited his own cell phone invoice of $110 and the cost of the memory stick for his computer of $39. He added the information is online with the accounts listed in the posted agendas.

“I checked the past month to make sure they were there. They’re quite easy to access.”

Broomhead said the accounts do not show his own phone costs of $35 to $40 a month for his own phone bill, which adds up to roughly $500 a year “out of my own pocket.”

The township began posting full agenda packages on it website at the beginning of this year. Prior to that, postings generally provided only agenda summary outlines and meeting minutes.
