Celebrate International Volunteer Day on Dec. 5

The Volunteer Centre of Guelph/Wellington would like to publicly acknowledge the significance of International Volunteer Day (IVD) which takes place on Dec. 5 each year and is officially recognized by the United Nations as a day on which volunteers around the world are celebrated for their contributions and dedication.

As the saying goes, “Nothing is stronger than the heart of a volunteer”.  It takes selflessness to put a foot forward and complete a task that needs to be done for the sheer fact that it needs to be done.  From those who help out in soup-kitchens for the homeless, to those who lend their talents creating websites for nonprofit organizations, the volunteer can be considered the glue that keeps the world from collapsing.

There are a number of ways you can get involved in IVD to recognize your volunteers, whether you are an organization or an individual:

·  Recognize your volunteers – they deserve recognition.  A thank you goes a long way.

·  Appreciate volunteers for their skills, their time, their passion, and for the overall difference they make to your organization and to your communities.

· Give your volunteers meaningful tasks to work on, ones that match their skills, time and commitment.

The Volunteer Centre of Guelph/Wellington is a charitable organization with a mission to provide resources and leadership to enable the development of people and organizations.
