Call to artists for 2018 juried art exhibition in Minto

The Minto Arts Council is sponsoring its fourth Juried Art Exhibition from May 4 to June 1 at the Minto Arts Gallery in the Harriston Library.

Entry is open to all artists living in Ontario. The deadline for entry is April 2 and the entry fee is $30 with up to three works accepted.

This exhibition always attracts a broad range of artists, styles and mediums, and organizers say they look forward to celebrating with the finalists at the annual reception in May (date to be announced).

Original works including two or three dimensional pieces, installation and new media works completed within the last five years will be accepted.

This year’s show includes two new privately sponsored cash awards for watercolour and printmaking in addition to first, second, third and People’s Choice awards.

Information about the Minto Arts Council’s 2018 Juried Art Exhibition, including the download registration form and brochure, is available at mintoartscouncil.ca/2018-juried-art-exhibition.

For further questions, contact the Minto Arts Council president at 519-504-1044. The exhibition is juried by three artists:

– Wesley Bates is a wood engraver who has expanded his horizons to paintings in oils, acrylic and gouache, drawings, etchings, glass engravings, handmade books and letterpress work. Bates also illustrates for major publishers. His gallery, studio and his own imprint, West Meadow Press are in Clifford.

– Karen Cheesman is originally from Toronto and is now living in rural Ontario. Cheesman is a multi-disciplinary, international award winning lettering artist and type designer. Her varied passions have led her to produce more unconventional works which combine influences from architecture and her rural surroundings.

– Brenda Murray is a marketing consultant. She is the founder of the Art District Gallery, the founder of Urban Sketchers Waterloo Region, and she is the communication director on the board of Urban Sketchers. Murray teaches workshops on perspective and drawing techniques privately and at the Button Factory and Homer Watson Gallery.
