GUELPH – The death toll at Guelph General Hospital from C. Difficile has now reached six.

Officials released a statement on Aug. 12 stating that in the past week an elderly patient was admitted with numerous health issues, including community-acquired C. difficile.

As with all suspected cases of C. difficile, the patient was immediately put on contact precautions upon admission and placed in isolation.

That patient passed away two days later.

Since the outbreak began on May 4, Guelph General Hospital has had 18 cases of hospital-acquired C. difficile – the latest one being on Aug.  3.

Six of those 18 patients have since passed away and officials have stated that C. difficile may have been a contributing factor.
