Broomhead says there is no conflict in truck purchases

Apparently, it’s all in the name.

Wellington North recently awarded Arthur Chrysler the bid for new trucks for the township.

Prior to that discussion, Mayor Mike Broomhead said, “Just because it’s got the name Arthur Chrysler in there, it’s not the Arthur Chrysler I work for [in Mount Forest]; it’s the one in Arthur.”

Broomhead added, “I had absolutely no input or received any remuneration, so I have no reason to declare a conflict of interest, because I was not involved whatsoever. It’s not the dealership I work at.”

Council authorized the purchase of three pick-up trucks from Arthur Chrysler Plymouth (Arthur) as recommended by the work committee. The bid by Arthur Chrysler was the lowest of two received for the trucks.

The quote from Arthur Chrysler included bids on regular cab ($24,519) and extended cab ($27,210) 4×4 trucks.

Based on the bids received, two extended cab short box trucks would be purchased for the works department and one regular cab long box truck would be for the water and sewer department.
