Belwood man elected chairman of FMRP

The board of directors of the Farm Mutual Reinsurance Plan Inc. (FMRP) has announced that Brian Bessey, assistant general manager for Peel Mutual Insurance Com­pany of Brampton, has been elected chairman of the board.

The Farm Mutual Reinsur­ance Plan Inc. is the first all Canadian Reinsurance Com­pany and is located in Cambridge. It is owned by 60 Farm Mutual Insurance Com­pa­nies from across Canada.

The Farm Mutual Insurance Companies that own the com­pany are Farm, Personal and Commercial Insurance Compa­nies.

They have served their Members in rural Canada in the mutual tradition for more than 100 years.

FMRP was formed in 1959. Currently, the corporation has annual revenues of over $135-million) and assets exceeding $600-million).

Prior to joining Peel Mutual in 1989, Bessey began his career in the insurance industry in 1965.

Bessey and his wife, Donna, have two grown daughters. The couple as lived on a farm near Belwood since 1974.

In addition to a business career of over 40 years dedicated to the insurance industry, Bessey has an avid interest in agriculture and continues to operate a small cash crop operation.
