Archives offers programs for personal research

Discover the family tree, the heritage of a home and how to investigate the secrets of a family’s past this April. In celebration of Archives Awareness Week from April 1 to 5, Wellington County Museum and Archives is opening its doors with a full week of programs and tours:

–  April 1 at 2pm, Stars of the Town, 1947 documentary films of Drayton, Elora, Erin, Hillsburgh, Palmerston and Rockwood. Advance registration not required.;

– April 2 at 7pm, learn how to research the history of a house;

– April 3 at 7pm, learn how to start a family history research;

– April 4 at 7pm, learn to preserve family photographs (including digital images); and

– April 5 at 7pm, learn where to access free websites to help in family research.

“This is your chance to see exciting gems from our collection and get a glimpse of the wealth of material available for you to use in your research – fine art, maps, photographs, letters, diaries and much more,” said archivist Karen Wagner. “We are offering free behind-the-scenes tours” at 2pm from April 2 to April 5.”

The Wellington County Museum and Archives is located on County Road 18 between Fergus and Elora.
