Aboyne library renovations begin in September

The much anticipated renovation of the Aboyne branch of the Wellington County Library system is scheduled to begin next month.

The renovation will see required accessibility improvements made to the building, including upgrades to the public washrooms and public entrance.

Library staff will be purchasing new shelving that won’t be as tall as the existing shelving. The children’s area will receive new mobile shelving and new space for story time programs.

The newly renovated building will also become home to staff from Wellington County Child Care Services. Their offices will be located at the back of the building and be accessible to area childcare providers and the public throughout the work week.

The two services will complement each other and staff is looking forward to coming together in the renovated space, officials say.

Renovation timeline

Renovations will begin in September and be completed by the end of 2016.

To facilitate a speedy renovation project and get the building up and running again as soon as possible, the library’s last day of operations will be Sept. 11.

All material will be removed from the building and placed in storage until the work is completed.

The anticipated re-opening date will be sometime in December 2016.

Aboyne library staff will be working at other neighbouring library branches during the renovation.

VG Architects of Brantford is  looking after the design and implementation of the renovations.

VG has extensive experience in the building and renovation of libraries around the province and is bringing years of experience and expertise to this project, county officials say.

The new space will maintain all the current features and collections that patrons are familiar with – in addition to a room for special events and various other improvements that bring the building in compliance with accessibility standards.
