A piece of the puzzle: Jester”™s asking community to help build giant puzzle

A local toy store is calling on the community to help build the world’s largest jigsaw puzzle for a good cause.

With a donation to the Centre Wellington Food Bank, builders of all ages can take part at Jester’s Fun Factory in Fergus.

Puzzle building officially started on Jan. 10, and co-owner Evelyn Gould said the jungle scene puzzle will be built in 10 3,360-piece sections over the next couple of months.

“I just decided to do this as a community event, just to bring the community together and also to do it as a fundraiser for the food bank,” said Gould.

She added puzzle building brings people together.

“No matter who you are, you could have somebody like a retired person and a young mom with a kid and they’re both sitting there doing the same thing as a common goal and it’s just a real nice sense of community,” she said.

The food donation is not mandatory, but Gould encourages it to show “many hands working together can make a difference.”

The 33,600-piece Educa Borras jigsaw puzzle will measure 18 feet by five feet once completed, which is the world’s largest puzzle to date.

A time-lapse video will record the construction.

Gould said she would love for the puzzle to hang from the store’s ceiling once complete.

This is the second community jigsaw puzzle for Jester’s. An 8,000-piece puzzle was completed in 2000 when the store was located in Drayton.
