Driver caught going four times speed limit: police

GUELPH – A Guelph man faces several charges and was immediately taken off the road after he was caught driving more than four times the speed limit.

Just before 1am on Oct. 25, a Guelph Police officer was conducting speed enforcement on Stone Road East near Victoria Road South when he allegedly clocked an Audi travelling 161km/h in a 40km/h zone.

“The vehicle was pulled over and the officer detected a strong odour of alcohol on the driver’s breath,” police stated in an Oct. 27 press release.

A roadside breath test showed he was in the warning range with 50 to 79mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood in his system. The legal limit is 80.

“A search of the car revealed more than 30 empty beer cans in the rear seat as well as a contaminated cannabis pipe and a vapourizer beside the driver’s seat,” police stated.

A 21-year-old Guelph man was charged with stunt driving, speeding, failing to surrender a vehicle permit and driving a vehicle with cannabis available. His licence was suspended for 30 days and his vehicle was seized for 14 days. He was also served with a 72-hour licence suspension due to breath test results.
