DRAYTON – The Drayton Fair is celebrating the community’s roots at the Drayton Fairgrounds Aug. 8 to 10.
The fair is expected to host an array of familiar events and competitions across the weekend.
The theme of the fair is “Celebrating Our Roots”.
“This year’s fair promises something for everyone with three fun-filled days of family activities, entertainment, amazing food, educational exhibits, and thrilling events like the tractor pull and the demolition derby,” said Perth-Wellington MP John Nater in a press release.
Gates open at 5pm on Aug. 8 for a truck and tractor pull scheduled for 5:30pm.
Aug. 9 brings a full day, with gates for the fair opening at 7:30am.
Animal shows begin at 11am with a goat show, followed by a dairy show at 12pm.
Free children’s activities, such as inflatables, face painting, balloon animals, a birds of prey show and live music from Cara Smith are slotted through Saturday afternoon and into the evening.
Gates reopen on Aug. 10 at 7:30am and a Legion breakfast is set to happen upstairs in the Ag Hall from 8 to 11am.
Livestock competitions continue with a beef show at 12pm and a sheep show at 12:30pm.
The weekend winds down with a demolition derby at 1pm.
A Drayton/Mapleton junior fair ambassador, chosen from five youth applicants vying for the role on Aug. 5, will be at the event.
The winner will be picked based on an application, a speech reflecting the community and its agriculture, as well as an interview.
Admission
Fair admission is cash-only at the gate.
Single day admission costs $15, a weekend pass $35, and a kids’ (ages six to 12) weekend pass is $5. Children five and under are free.
Drayton/Mapleton Agricultural Society Arlie Zantinge manager expressed appreciation for “all the time and commitment of our community for helping to put this event on.”
