Students from Gorge Karate participated in IMGKA Canadian Championships

ELORA – Students from Gorge Karate participated in the IMGKA Canadian Championships on May 25 at Elora Public School. Students competed in their belt and age group in two divisions; Kata and Weapons. This was a charity event with proceeds donated to the Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington. This event was also highlighted by a visit from Hanshi Akihito Yagi from Okinawa, Japan (president of IMGKA). The kids had an opportunity to train with Yagi prior to the tournament. Adult seminars with Yagi were held on May 26 at Elora Public School followed by Dojo seminars throughout the following week. Winners in their division include: Ethan Paul – third place Green Belt Kata; Alexandra Gray – first place adult Yellow Belt Weapons; Christopher Schieck – second place Black Belt Kata; and Celine Schieck – first place adult Black Belt Kata and Adult Black Belt Grand Champion.
