150 years plus featured at this year”™s Doors Open

This year's Doors Open offers much more than just a self-guided tour – it will be a grand celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary of confederation.

On June 17 from 10am to 4pm, 11 locations will throw  their doors wide open to give residents and visitors a unique opportunity to explore sometimes hidden, always interesting places and hear local stories spanning the past 180 years.

Some of the featured locations include the Marshall Block (former Rafferty building) and Elora Mill (northside) which will open their doors despite undergoing extensive renovations to showcase work in progress and the lengths they are going to preserve heritage features.

Rosedale Farm offers a trip to the country complete with a tour of an Ontario Bank Barn and a visit with the clydesdales.

Celebrating the legacy of the Stafford Family, a family of local builders, the Jones House, a private residence and perfect example of Stafford workmanship, will be doing home and garden tours.

Veranda House, another private residence will also be opening its doors and just down the road Knox Elora and Manse, welcome visitors to help them ring the 1,100 pound church bell to celebrate their 180th anniversary.

These are just a few of the locations that can be visited in one day.

A passport will guide visitors from location to location.  Collect four or more passport stamps for a chance to win a prize.

PasSports are available now at the Elora Tourism Information Centre; Centre Wellington Sportsplex and the Chamber of Commerce.

PasSports will also be available at each Doors Open location on June 17. A complete list of locations and further details are available at doorsopenontario.on.ca/ferguselora.

Organizers are also looking forward to throwing our doors open literally at the township office. Stop in to say hello to the mayor and council during a daytrip around Centre Wellington full of tales and stories of the past and present.
