Young child dies in tragic accident on Wellington North farm

WELLINGTON NORTH – A young child has died in a tragic accident on a farm here.

Wellington County OPP officials have confirmed a “non-suspicious death” on the property, located on Highway 6 between Arthur and Kenilworth.

Emergency crews, including Arthur and Fergus firefighters, responded to the call around 6:45pm on March 28.

The call to firefighters stated a “one-and-a-half year old child” had “possibly fallen into a waste tank” on the property.

“The investigation is now in the hands of the Office of the Chief Coroner and it’s being considered as a non-suspicious death,” OPP spokesperson Kirk MacDonald stated.

Wayne Martin, who lives on the property, told the Advertiser the 18-month-old boy went missing on the farm on Sunday at about 6pm.

The boy had fallen into a barn manure system and his body was found the next day, he said.

“Please keep the family, and especially the young parents, in your thoughts and prayers as they face the devastating loss of their only child,” Martin wrote on social media.
