Worker airlifted to hospital after industrial accident in Mapleton

MAPLETON – A 20-year-old male was airlifted to hospital in London with severe leg injuries following an industrial accident on an agricultural property here on Jan. 10.

Mapleton Fire Chief Rick Richardson said firefighters were called to the scene around 12:10pm in response to a report of a worker trapped by a piece of “pneumatic equipment.”

Firefighters from the Drayton and Moorefield stations responded to the incident, as well as paramedics from Guelph Wellington Paramedic Service.

Richardson said the worker, who sustained blunt trauma injuries, was freed by emergency responders using the Jaws of Life, pneumatic lifts and a forklift.

Once freed the worker was transported to hospital via air ambulance.

The Ministry of Labour is investigating.
