Wheres the beef

Larry Grummett Insurance Broker of Clifford has partnered with Peel Mutual Insurance Company in Brampton to support the Clifford Food Bank, company president and owner Randy Ruetz recently announced.

“Peel Mutual supports the 4-H youth who participate in the Queen’s Guineas’ show at the Royal Winter Fair by actively bidding on and purchasing a prize winning beef animal at the show. This sale price of $2,300 to $2,800 gives the 4-H members a nice return for their year’s efforts. The beef is shared between a local charity in Brampton and a needy organization somewhere in the company’s writing area,” Peel Mutual CEO Brian Bessey explained.

“Randy Ruetz will be responsible for the processing, cutting, and wrapping of the beef. Hundreds of pounds of roasts, steaks, and hamburger will feed a lot of needy families,” Bessey added.

In the past, charities chosen have included the Family Life/Resource Centre in Brampton, the Green Haven Shelter for Women in Orillia, the Sunderland Food Bank, the Jennifer Ashley Foundation in Uxbridge, the Family Transition Place in Orangeville, and My Sister’s Place in Alliston.

Marion Agla, of the Clifford Food Bank, says it is not easy for clients to put nutritious meals on the table, let alone stock the shelves in their homes, pantries, and freezers. Family’s struggle for various reasons, usually employment-related, she said. The food bank board includes representation  from Knox United Church, St. John’s Lutheran Church, and the Clifford Community Church. President is Bruce Shannon, while Karen Dowler acts as treasurer and Bonnie Whitehead as secretary. Other organizers include: Marion Agla Ruth Koeslag, and Elizabeth Bott. In a community of 800 people, close to 20 families are being supported each month with close to 25 receiving a Christmas hamper.

Marion Agla commended Peel Mutual and Randy and Trish Ruetz are to be commended for supporting their communities in this way.
