Wellington North waives fees for dog tags until end of year

Wellington North is hoping an amnesty on dog tag fees will encourage more people to register their dogs.

Council approved a motion waiving dog tag fees in November and December. Each household can obtain a dog tag at no charge.

“What we believe is we’re under-collecting dog tags,” said Mayor Andy Lennox.

“We’re offering amnesty till the end of the year to try to get people to voluntarily come in.”

Lennox is hoping this will increase the number of dogs registered to a more accurate level. He adds this will help dog owners too.

“If they lose their dog, we have a way to get them back,” he said.

This is a one-time event and people are encouraged to contact the municipal office for more information. The tag must be issued at the Kenilworth municipal office.
