Wellington North hires integrity commissioner

Wellington North joins five other municipalities and the county in hiring a joint integrity commissioner.

On June 25, council approved the staff recommendation to hire Guy Giorno of Fasken Martineau as integrity commissioner.

Giorno is a lawyer specializing in public law with an emphasis on accountability and ethics.

He has significant experience in public sector ethics, conflict of interest, codes of conduct, accountability legislation, lobbyist registration law and election and election finance law, states the report.

Giorno’s hourly rate is $300 plus travel and accommodation fees.

He serves as integrity commissioner for 20 municipalities in Ontario. In Wellington North he will serve as integrity commissioner until 2022, commencing Feb. 28, 2019.
