Wellington North Council has approved funding for two projects as part of its annual community-initiated project program.

Economic development officer Dale Small presented a report on May 7, recommending council give one-time grants of $2,000 to Wellington Heights Truth about Youth community garden and Friends of Pickleball Mount Forest.

The request from Wellington Heights Truth about Youth represents 35 per cent of overall project costs to assist with creating a community garden at Wellington Heights Secondary School in Mount Forest.

The school, school board, Seniors Centre of Excellence and the horticultural society have also donated $3,000 collectively toward the project.

The Friends of Pickleball Mount Forest requested $6,000 (100 per cent of overall costs) through the township’s grant and donations program. Council recommended the program be considered under the community initiated project program instead.

Council approved funding $2,000 toward the costs of setting up a new location, waiver of rental fees and purchase of equipment.

Council has allocated $50,000 in 2018 for this program. To date, council approved $2,500 funding for Mount Forest Minor Ball and $16,250 funding for the Senior Centre of Excellence.
