Wellington County’s Christmas Carol: Christmas 2020

By Jessica Buchanan

It’s Christmas 2020, what’s different you ask ?
Well take a look around everyone’s wearing a mask.
Go look out your window! The kids are at play
What’s that ? Oh no, all the kids have gone away!?
You want to know why? Because something’s not right
No one’s getting together, a true silent night
Yes this year has been different, there really is no doubt
I sit here alone and feel I could shout
“Okay 2020!!!! We all get the point!
Were tired and lonely our lives out of joint”
Christmas time comes once a year this is true
Last year we felt joy and this year we feel blue
Can’t you give us one day??! We have broken hearts
We’ve washed hands and distanced all 6 feet apart
Yes this year will be different, it doesn’t have to be bad
We could dwell on it all because we feel sad
In fact we could scream, cry, throw things and get mad!
Or we could choose to be joyful and glad!
Thankful and grateful for all that we had!
You can’t steal our Christmas, the grinch taught us that
It’s not about gifts or a man with a hat
And there is a way we all can find joy
The feeling a child would feel for a toy
So video chat, text, call and you’ll see
You are not really that far from your own family
You choose what you wish but please celebrate
because this Christmas is going to be great
I hope this year you find happiness
to you and your family, Merry Christmas and God Bless
