WEB ONLY: Fraberts raises $600 for food bank

Fraberts Fresh Food’s inaugural fresh food drive was an overwhelming success.

Customers donated nearly $300 throughout December and Fraberts is matching that contribution for a total donation of $600 in fresh produce for the Centre Wellington Food Bank.

Before Christmas, Fraberts provided 120 pounds of apples, 120 pounds of sweet potatoes, 50 pounds of carrots, and 50 pounds of onions to the food bank – all of it sourced from Ontario farms.

“Our customers were incredibly generous,” said Jackie Fraser, of Fraberts Fresh Food.  “We are so pleased with the success of our first fresh food drive, we will definitely make it an annual event.”

Michael Counsell, manager of the Centre Wellington Food Bank, appreciated the help.

“It is often a challenge to offer fresh fruit and vegetables to our clients,” Counsell said. “We’re pleased to work with Fraberts to get these healthy foods to those in need.”

The fresh food drive was so successful Fraberts will be able to provide fresh produce to the food bank throughout the winter.

Nearly 2,000 people rely on the Centre Wellington Food Bank, with children represent ing approximately one-third of users. Due to the challenging economic times, visits have increased 25% since September of this year.

Fraberts Fresh Food is a family-owned fresh food market specializing in ready-made meals, fresh local produce, quality meats and cheeses, and freshly baked bread from the Village Bakery, in Mount Forest.

The Centre Wellington Food Bank is a not-for-profit charitable service, providing food for those in need in the township.
