– Police are warning residents to be cautious after some children found an item that could be classified as a weapon.

OPP Constable Keith Robb reported that on July 5 at about 5:40pm, a county OPP was called about a report of a weapon at Victoria Park on Albert Street East.

Investigation revealed that children found a stick with glass taped to the end of it buried in the sand. It was turned over to staff at the park and police were notified.

Robb said police are unsure if the weapon was intended to cause harm to children playing in the sand or just hidden there for concealment purposes. They are seeking public help to get information.

Anyone who knows anything that might assist the police with this investigation is asked to call 1-888-310-1122 or, to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (1-800-222-8477) or submit a tip on-line at www.wellington-crimestoppers.com.
