Trustees approved several recommendations regarding the expansion of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program in the Upper Grand District School Board.
At the Dec. 20 board meeting trustees directed staff to investigate the expansion of the IB program to include a primary years program and/or middle years program in Guelph, and also investigate establishing an IB diploma program in Dufferin County and/or the Wellington County.
In November 2015, Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute was authorized as an International Baccalaureate Diploma Program World School.
The first class of students began the IB program at GCVI in September 2016.

Following this successful launch, board staff are now equipped with the knowledge and data to expand the IB World School Program from JK to Grade 12 in Guelph.
Following approval at the board meeting, staff will begin the work to investigate expanding the IB program.
According to the IB organization, the program prepares students “to become active, caring, lifelong learners who demonstrate respect for themselves and others and have the capacity to participate in the world around them. It focuses on the development of the whole child.”
