Townships awards of excellence set for April 28

On April 28, the Centre Wellington Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual awards of excellence.

It is a celebration of community and business and everyone is invited to the gala. This year the theme is Centre Wellington – It’s a grand cabaret. In keeping with a tradition started a few years ago, guests are encouraged to dress in business attire or the theme of the evening.

This year the nominees are Jim Bell, Bentley House Tea and Catering, Centre Wellington Food Bank, Community Resource Centre of North and Centre Wellington, Deb Dalziel, Ted Ecclestone, Edge Realty Solutions, Noel Edison, Elora Gorge Animal Hospital, Elora Rocks, Empty Bowls & Glasses Project, Fergus Custom Upholstery & Design, Fraberts Fresh Food, Glomar Technologies Inc., Louise Goldsmith, Grand River Running, Groves Memorial Community Hospital, Sarah Hennekens, James Fryett Architect Inc., James Keating Construction, Fred Morris – Vision Financial, Pine Needle Crafts, Resa Lent, Derek Linwood, Palmer’s Woodworking, Planet CPU, Bob Reynolds, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 275 Fergus, Second Time ’Round, Dr. Robert Alan Simpson, Deryk Smith, Klaas Swaving Ltd., Uptown Café, Tony and Gertie Vervoort and Family, and Wellington County Museum & Archives.

Some were nominated by more than one person and a nominee may have been nominated for more than one category. Long service awards will be presented for 25 years in business to Second Chance Employment Counselling (Wellington) Inc., Belwood Super Snax, Cousins & Johnson Inc., Elora Arts Council, J. Ferguson Antiques, Fergus Truck Show, Grand River Plumbing Ltd., Materials Placement Ltd., Royalthane Inc., Rural Route Appraisals, Tufco Flooring of Ontario.

As well, three will receive recognition for having completed 40 years in business: C&W Enterprises, Fergus Medical Centre, and The Village Inn.

Karen Welch, adjudication chairman for the awards said, “Many thanks to our community members for your support in nominating such excellent nominees. Your efforts and time taken to recognize our outstanding community businesses and citizens through completing forms, letters or photos within chamber timelines is greatly appreciated.

“Thanks as well to our community panel of adjudicators who will now have the challenging task of selecting the winners from this superb collection of nominees.”
